Vice President of Agronomy / Bio Technology

PlantTape is seeking an immediate full time agronomist to assume the position of Vice President of Agronomy / Bio Technology.

PlantTape is an agricultural vegetable transplanting company based in California with operations throughout North America and Europe. Our revolutionary transplant design and automated transplanting equipment provides farmers with a solution to meet the growing labor shortages while providing better efficiencies and overall yield. You will be joining a small but very focused team working to bring the PlantTape system to the global market. 

Job Description

Lead a growing agronomy / bio technology group within the PlantTape organization to maximize the yield and quality of PlantTape to our customers. Direct this collaborative group as they work to identify best varieties, germination conditions and growing practices. Work directly with seed suppliers, nursery operations and commercial growers to implement these findings and identify best practices for the PlantTape system.

Conduct trials to validate products or ideas from both inside and outside the PlantTape organization. Analyzation of these trials will be used to understand best practices and provide guidance to maximize customers in field quality and yield. These trials will be conducted though all aspects of the PlantTape and across all regions including North America and Europe.

As a key member of the executive team you will help set company strategic direction and help identify new opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with seed breeders / distributors to identify best practices for PlantTape system with regards to

  • Varieties
  • Grading
  • Coating
  • Priming

Work with commercial nurseries to build individual germination protocol by commodity / variety using the PlantTape system

  • Germination & growing temperature / humidity
  • Days in the nursery
  • Watering practices
  • Chemical applications
  • Fertilizer applications         

Work with customers to understand best growing practices for various crops using the PlantTape system

  • Root development
  • Soil types
  • Geographical needs
  • Watering needs
  • Nutrient needs
  • Days to harvest

Education / Experience

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree (Agronomy, Crop Science or Related Field)
  • 5 years experience
