Job description

We are a leader in the organic produce industry, with domestic and international product supply, with sales/marketing throughout the US and Canada.


Description: The Food Safety and Compliance Specialist requires excellent project management skills, strong documenting skills, and proven interpersonal skills. You must be self-directed and be able to tune into the needs of the business; and be flexible enough so that when those needs change, your priorities change accordingly.


You’ll be leading the Food Safety and Regulatory environment working with and supporting team members in every department. You need to understand the flow of the business, and have clear, direct communication skills.



  • Continue to develop and insure adherence to policies and programs on food safety/defense guidance and education.

  • Support/Lead, as required, related programs including traceability and recall.

  • Serve as a food safety resource for all growers associated with the company and share best practices unilaterally.

  • Ensure compliance with our customers’ food safety requests/projects

  • Ensure organic certification compliance

  • Ensure social accountability certification compliance

  • Maintain master file of food safety documents for all growers, packhouses, and warehouses and ensure all suppliers’ certificates and full-text audits are current

  • Drive Compliance for FMSA and FSVP Rulings as laid out by FDA


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge of FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act), GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative), food safety operations in the areas of HAACP, GMP (Good Manufacturing Processes) and GAP (Good Agricultural Processes), and supplier assurance programs such as SQF and BRC. Knowledge of packing house operations, post-harvest practices and familiarity with the Produce Safety Rule.

  • In-depth knowledge of NOP (National Organic Plan) and how it relates to our business

  • Ability to prepare for and participate in annual on-site organic certification audits and resolve any corrective actions immediately

  • Ability to prepare for and participate in annual on-site social accountability audits and resolve any corrective actions immediately

  • Ability to liaison with our customers, our suppliers, and our employees to meet the special requests of those customers as they relate to food safety and/or organic certification

  • Knowledge global supply chains to ensure that all aspects of organic certification and food safety are being met

  • Ensure potential suppliers meet our organic and food safety standards before we represent them, and then working closely with those suppliers to ensure compliance

  • Ensure that all domestic storage and warehouses are NOP-compliant)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of management experience.

  • Organic produce knowledge is desirable

  • MS Office competency

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate with suppliers in different countries, time zones, and languages
  • Spanish Fluency is a plus

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common industry information, orders and packing information. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers. Ability to write clearly and present numerical data efficiently. Ability to communication and effectively present information with management and others. Spanish Fluency is a bonus.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rate, ration and percent.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
